Do you believe in an afterlife?
Do you think the spirit of your loved ones continue?
Have you ever seen or felt something you thought was a “sign”?

Part 1 of this blog series talked about my initial transition to be more open to “afterlife” and to watch for “signs.” Part 2 described how I received “signs” from friends in the first year after my son Brent’s death that laid the foundation for my belief in an afterlife, how meditation helped and how it led to my founding The Compassionate Friends of Greater Newburyport, MA, a support group. (links for Part 1 and Part 2 of this blog).

Throughout this journey I’ve had several signs and conversations through mediums, many detailed in my book, but receiving signs were even more meaningful when they would happen to me directly or through a trusted friend, who I was not paying to focus on Brent.

Pets reactions are interesting to watch. When we returned home from Arizona, our sons’ dog Gizmo, a normally jubilant mini-schnauzer, did not do her usual happy welcoming routine. She sat on the steps with her head down and acted depressed, as if she knew one of her owners was gone. in the weeks following Brent’s funeral, we would often find her alone in his room and on a few occasions, saw her acting like someone was with her. Her ears would be at attention, her head tilted and she’d be looking up, sometimes moving in a circle or adjusting the way she was sitting, like someone was with her!

In the first couple of months after Brent’s funeral, several times, I awoke at night seeing tiny white lights amid the dark in my room. They were suspended in air like stars, but much smaller and moving — like pin pricks of light in a dark sheet.  At first, I thought I was dreaming, but I’d blink a few times and confirm I was awake — and that I’d still see them. I felt a kind of “presence” with them, but didn’t know what it was. Later, a medium told me it was probably Brent checking on me. Brent’d father, Bob, did not see those lights but he told me that he did see images of Brent three times; once int he car like he was sitting in the front seat with him, once at home and a third time outside. He was much more skeptical than me, so he seemed surprised by this.

That first holiday after Brent passed away, we went away for the time between Christmas and New Year’s, returning home on New Year’s Day. It was very cold, and there was a package with a wreath for Brent’s grave from his fiancé, Laura, which had been delivered a day or two earlier. We decided to put it on Brent’s grave right away, securing it on a wrought iron hook fastening Laura’s note to the front of the wreath. We then took several pictures before returning home. When we looked at the images the next day, we were amazed! Not only were there orbs and filmy images in some of the pictures, but there was a nearly opaque image of what looked like the shape of a face with Brent’s hairline positioned to read the note! It could not have been steam because the wreath was already cold and those filmy images did not appear in all pictures. We believe that he got her gift.

These were just some signs in the first year after my oldest son crossed over – I’ll get to others in the course of our discussions and there are more detailed in my book.

I would love to hear from you about your experiences.
