Video Script:

This is Dave. He chose to heal after loosing his only son to an overdose. You can imagine Dave went through a period of time that was not only mind numbing but extremely difficult, and lonely.

My name is Barbara J Hopkinson of A Butterfly’s Journey To a New Normal. We help individuals and families struggling with grief to find a new normal after experiencing loss of a child or other traumatic loss.

The fact that you are experiencing something that you never thought would happen is exactly why it is normal to feel like Dave was feeling and this is why we suggest getting out into nature o help you heal.

When you immerse yourself in nature after the loss of a loved one, it somehow eases your stress and makes you feel more connected to your loved one. You can improve your whole day by taking a walk in nature, for example, but there are so many ways to enjoy nature.

We suggest adding quiet time outdoors to your weekly schedule, even daily or every other day, if possible.

Some suggestions to enjoy nature:
• Take a walk in a local park and enjoy the flowers.
• Ride a bike path through a wooded area and take in the earthy smell. • Sit for a while at a waterfront or on a beach and listen to the water.
• Dress warm and do not take your phone or any distractions with you!

Nature has powerful healing qualities. It did for Dave as he chose to heal.
