George and Norma Strait’s daughter Jenifer died in a non-alcohol-related car accident in 1986 near San Marcos, Texas. The 13-year-old was riding with friends. Strait, 53, who also has a son, George Jr., does not publicly discuss his daughter’s death, but when asked about the song, he recently told the Great American Country cable network, “Obviously, it’s a special song for me. You know, the things that have happened in my life and losing my daughter. I believe that someday we will be together again. I think that’s what we all strive for; to get to heaven some day.”
